With the emergence of physician dispensing program there are new payment methods and systems that make the dispensing program easier than ever. In 2017 there were two new payment programs of MIPS and APMS to choose from MACRA. MIPS stands for merit-based incentive payment system and APMS stands for advanced alternative payments model. Most of the providers were by default were placed in MIPS and they had to put a lot of effort to make the payment model work for avoiding penalties as there was lot of uncertainty in MACRA in the first year. In the next year, 2018, there were a few more changes and all were implemented in 2019. Quite a few regulations were added that allowed the providers with multiple submission mechanism.

As there are adjustments made at MIPS, a few actions are taken. It helps keep the providers to stay prepared for the unforeseen problems. Medical practices are now framing the system while operating it. In the year of 2018, the year 2 rules became finalized of November 2nd. It gave the practices enough time to keep themselves in a position to get success. After months of working on it finally there is MIPS plans for execution and three suggestions has charted at top for getting in the scene of MIPS/MACRA picture.

Choose Measure Rightly

There are more than 270 MACRA available. Among them many measures are specialty specific and might not be applicable for your practices. Still finding the right system for your reports can be complex. You have to first find out the definitions of the measures. When you have selected the measure your reports will be based on that only and the measure would be relevant or applicable to the provided service.

Find Right Person

The shift toward a value-based healthcare system addresses more than just patient satisfaction and practice revenue. There’s also a heavy, albeit indirect, focus on physician burnout. Put simply, when your physicians are overworked and spread too thin, they won’t be able to deliver the best care to their patients. This directly impacts your MIPS score.

As we are moving to more value based health care system such as physician dispensing program we look more into patient satisfaction and revenue. When the physicians need to work out of their capacity they will be stressed and it will show up in their services. It will affect the MIPS score. Before you finalize the measure for reporting, you should find the right clinician. They will know better which measure is better and required and appropriate. They know well which measure allows them to give the best care to the patients.
