Holiday Gift Ideas for Thyroid Patients

Our favorite part of the holiday season has always been to give and receive thoughtful gifts from family and friends. However, as we became more health-conscious, we found it more difficult to shop for holiday gifts. As a result, our family members had a difficult time deciding what to get for the holidays.

In the past, we would make cookies and package them in tins to send to friends, family, and coworkers for the holidays. We would buy our husband/spouse a new perfume or take him/her to a trendy restaurant. We used to buy sweets and candies for everyone as stocking stuffers. It was never a problem for our loved ones to come up with thoughtful presents for us. Everything smelled so good to us!

Later, we began to know about most of the occurrences of everyday in our life were negatively impacting our health and aggravating our Hashimoto's disease.

  • Sugar in the chocolate and cookies was related to imbalances in blood sugar levels.

  • We were experiencing diarrhea, acid reflux, and carpal tunnel as a result of the baked goods' gluten and dairy content.

  • Endocrine-disrupting chemicals were found in the perfumes, colognes, and lotions.

You can't "unlearn" what you've learned. Gifting things that we had learned were harmful to one's health made me uncomfortable. But it doesn't mean that we can't have fun this holiday season! We'll have to think outside the box a little more, but it's not impossible.
